"The Troll'r"

Also called the "Rocket Troll'r"

Watch the bath tub demonstration video at bottom of this page

This vintage antique motorized, battery operated fishing lure aid (bobber) from the 1960's or early 70's is a great gift for the avid fisherman or collector. I have had many a conversation start with "What's this and how does it work?" or "Does it really catch fish?" and then the stories start to flow.

First a little History & Research on "The Troll'r"

The original boxes have "The Troll'r" imprinted on them but someone has printed a small piece of paper with "Rocket Troll'r" imprinted on it and glued it over the name "The Troll'r". Several of the small pieces of paper with the new name have fallen off. You can tell by the discoloring of the piece of paper that it was done many years ago too, why they did this is anyone's guess.

Our research suggests that the "The Troll'r" was made in the mid to late 1960's or possibly in the early 1970's because the post office started using 5 digit zip codes in 1963 and there is a 5 digit zip code on the original box the "The Troll'r" comes in.

The nose cone is embossed with "PACER PRODUCTS HOPKINS MINN" while the box and paper instructions say "STA-STITE CORP. ST. BONIFACIUS, MN. 55374" (note the zip code here). You can see the zip codes on the box and on the instruction in the 2 pictures here.

Also it appears to be prior to the advent of bar coding which according to Wikipedia was officially rolled out at 8:01 AM on June 26th 1974 at a Marsh Super Market in Troy Ohio on a 10 pack of Wrigley's gum (which is in the Smithsonian Institution now) but according to some information we came across, bar codes where tested from 1966 onward, in many stores on various products. So there is still the possibility that "The Troll'r" was sold in sporting good stores prior to 1970.

The nose cone is embossed with "PACER PRODUCTS HOPKINS MINN". Sorry but it is very difficult to see the embossing in these 2 photos.

It really works, all you have to do is install a battery.

It is rocket shaped, with fins, shaped, motorized and battery operated, lure swimmer or trolling machine.

Originally made for the shore fisherman or boater without a motor, but can be used by anyone in any type of boat in areas where it is difficult or impossible to operate the boat.

Size "D" or "AA" battery fits inside the "TheTroll'r" and make it run. We recommend the "AA" battery, at least this is what we use in our personal "The Troll'r.

The battery will not come loose or fall out when using "The Troll'r", we have never had a problem with this in "The Troll'r" and we have used our's at various lakes & ponds in this area, but it does get everyone's attention and they usually start up a conversation or begin asking all kinds of questions.

When to use it

I guess it is the super antique fishing lure aid of all time or at least of that period of time, it actually claims to be every fisherman's dream on the original box.

So you can catch those big ones that are always just beyond your casting range or in places that are just out of reach from the boat or you can't get the boat across the bar or log jam but you can get "The Rocket Troll'r beyond the bar or log jam to entice those lunker's hiding over yonder! We did a demo and had a "The Troll'r" out over 302 feet from the dock we where fishing from. There is a buoy out from the dock a plaque on the dock states it is 300 feet from the dock and it appeared to be just a hair past or even with the buoy.

Besides being a unique way to actually catch fish the "The Troll'r" is an antique fishing aid (like an antique fishing lure) that will impress your friends and co-workers or you can give it to someone as a birthday; anniversary; graduation  or opening day of fishing season gift, plus Thanksgiving day, Christmas or New Years day gift.

Below are pictures of a box that the "TheTroll'r" comes in (BOX IT WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD IN). It is a picture of the box in the best condition of all of the boxes in the shipment we received. Some of the boxes are in very bad condition. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee what condition the box will be in for every order. There was water damage to all the boxes the "The Troll'r"s where in but no damage to the "The Troll'r" and almost no damage to the instructions on how to use the "The Troll'r".

When you order a "The Troll'r" we cannot take the time to sort through and pick out the box in the best condition, we will send you which ever box we grab.

Unfortunately it is difficult to see the damage to the box in these pictures but there is more damage than it appears like in the photos.

The learning curve

One thing I should mention is the learning curve if you want to try it out fishing. There is a learning curve, or at least for me there was. I believe that children under 12 might have some difficulty with the "The Troll'r", and possibly 13 to 16 year olds too.

That said I am in my 60's and my learning curve may have been due to my age and compared to me the kids might pick it up very easily after a few test runs, who knows.

It is a great gift you can give to any fisherman of any age and they will get a big kick out of it..... I guarantee it!
